Betsey Johnson SS 12

Betsey Johnson’s a woman after my own heart, she’s not afraid of color, doesn’t need to care about trends, and for her Spring Summer 2012, line she’s all about tits and ass. Betsey’s collections radiate a no apologies, I’m going to wear whatever the hell I want attitude that creates the persona every woman needs a little bit of. I’ll admit I chuckled a little when I heard her theme for the show was tits and ass, and I greeted the female figure with ample respect. Sequins, flowy and short skirts, with a heavy dose of cleavage made for tons of fun. It’s her non-stop love of color that really gets me going every season and this collection is no different. But what I really want a little bit of is that hair, and Peter Gray of Cutler Salon has bestowed all the details on how to get it:

Betsey Johnson Meets Jerry Hall

• Apply Redken Rootful 06 Root Lifting Spray (or whatever root-lifting spray you’ve got) all over at the root.
• Divide the hair in a diagonal part from front left to back right.
• Take hair under left part and sweep it around for a tight ponytail on the lower right nape of the neck.
• Gather hair on the right side of the part. Pin curl section by section and let set. Spray vigorously with Redken Fashion Work 12 Versatile Working Spray on the top and inside each of the curls to lock into place.
• Once hair has dried, take the clips out and brush through to create dramatic waves.
• Spray Cutler Shine Tattoo to add glossy finish.

Yeah I Said It: Idris Elba, Dwayne Wade & Carmelo Anthony at the Giorgio Armani Menswear SS 2012

Friday, June 24th, 2011

Okay so I have to say this, short and sweet: Idris Elba is one fine specimen of a man. Seen here at the Giorgio Armani Menswear Spring Summer 2012 show with Dwayne Wade, Carmello Anthony and Giorgio Armani himself. Aside from the fact that Wade could use a facial peel, since I’m not sure what the heck that is on his forehead, and Carmelo Anthony’s trousers seem to be a little ill-fitting. Between Idris and Dwayne’s smiles I’m a little more than smitten. But as for Idris, in the words of that VH1 show, Single Ladies, that I’m now dubbing a guilty pleasure, “He could get it.”

Jewelry Heist: IPPOLITA Jewelry Preview

Thursday, March 24th, 2011

It’s pronounced ip-poe-lit-a, (in case you were wondering) but pronunciation aside my jewelry obsession was sent into a frenzy two nights ago at the Ippolita Jewelry Preview in NYC. The designer Ippolita is quite right when she says — “my jewelry is designed for the modern woman — effortlessly wearable pieces you’ll reach for everyday for every occasion.” I’d wear Ippolita morning, noon and night. I’m obsessed with the Rock Candy Collection, it’s use of my obsession, turquoise, is positively mind blowing, as are the Wonderland and Rose collections. As I perused the collections neatly displayed on wooden Ippolita monogrammed frames, sipping a few cocktails and nibbling on the sweet confection of a few cake pops – I couldn’t help but notice that every piece was more stunning than the next. It’s modern, it’s raw, and each piece emits a kind of effortless beauty that jewelry this good should. I spied by the window an over-sized pair of earrings on an equally large stand, and now I’m trying to figure out how to make one for my own humble abode. All in all, Ippolita’s pieces are timeless, and they’ll look good from morning to night, but the piece that I’m really coveting is the jumbo chainlink bracelet, it’s positively fabulous – that is all.  I took home this sweet little charm necklace that I’m currently trying to style five different ways for a post of its own, but until then take a look at what should be called jewelry porn below.

Rihanna’s Vogue Cover Sans the Plastic Wrap & More from the Spread

Wednesday, March 16th, 2011

Rihanna VogueI keep going back to this cover, but it’s for good reason. We’ve all been relegated to checking out the Rihanna Vogue cover from behind the sketchy plastic wrap, but thankfully Vogue has released the shots on their website along with a few photos from the shoot with Annie Leibovitz. They’ll be circulating all over the web in no time, but what I love about the digital image is that I can see everything, including the fact that Rihanna’s hair might need a do-over. Otherwise, the shots are pretty fantastic, the mermaid dress on the cover is definitely the show stopper, while the shots they’ve posted online (that I’ll suppose will appear in the issue) present a much more demure Rihanna, but what’s great about them is that they’re in tune with her Bajan roots. (more…)

Rihanna Vogue Magazine Cover April 2011

So she was so excited she tweeted about it when she wasn’t supposed to, Rihanna’s Vogue cover has finally been leaked, and my thoughts are not so rosy. I believe she might have been channeling Jessica Rabbit (or maybe even Beyonce), but this Vogue cover has nothing on the Elle cover from last July. As a matter of fact, that Elle cover convinced me to subscribe to Elle, this Vogue cover would not do the same. An awkward pose masks the Bajan beauty’s usual sex appeal, even with the sheer curve hugging gown, the cover is just too awkward. I’m all for Rhi Rhi exploring the flower side to her Reb’l Fleur thing, but this cover does neither. It’s too ladylike for edgy Rihanna, and too coquettish for the girl next door end of the spectrum.  I’ll leave my final judgement for when my copy arrives and I catch a glimpse of her editorial pages, but as of right now – I’m just not feeling it.

Backstage Beauty: Marc Jacobs & NARS

Between the groundhog proclaiming that spring will come early this year and my downright annoyance with the snow it’s time to get started on primping my makeup regimen with some of Spring’s hottest beauty trends. Marc Jacobs and François Nars paired up for an inspired partnership in the Summer Spring 2011 show, and in the event that you were wondering what made their intense dark shadowing so shiny (err… wet looking), Vaseline was the key ingredient to the NARS makeup palette at the Marc Jacobs SS2011 shows. And while the use of Vaseline on their eyelids makes me a little nostalgic for the days in my childhood when my mother confiscated my eyeshadow, this NARS palette is all grown up.

The Ingredients:

[1] Pure Matte Lipstick, in Volga

[2] Duo Eyeshadow, in Nouveau Monde

[3] Soft Touch Shadow Pencil, in Celebrate

Take a Look at the Video below for a little how-to help:
