Betsey Johnson Spring Summer 2012 Goes for Tits & Ass

Betsey Johnson SS 12

Betsey Johnson’s a woman after my own heart, she’s not afraid of color, doesn’t need to care about trends, and for her Spring Summer 2012, line she’s all about tits and ass. Betsey’s collections radiate a no apologies, I’m going to wear whatever the hell I want attitude that creates the persona every woman needs a little bit of. I’ll admit I chuckled a little when I heard her theme for the show was tits and ass, and I greeted the female figure with ample respect. Sequins, flowy and short skirts, with a heavy dose of cleavage made for tons of fun. It’s her non-stop love of color that really gets me going every season and this collection is no different. But what I really want a little bit of is that hair, and Peter Gray of Cutler Salon has bestowed all the details on how to get it:

• Apply Redken Rootful 06 Root Lifting Spray (or whatever root-lifting spray you’ve got) all over at the root.
• Divide the hair in a diagonal part from front left to back right.
• Take hair under left part and sweep it around for a tight ponytail on the lower right nape of the neck.
• Gather hair on the right side of the part. Pin curl section by section and let set. Spray vigorously with Redken Fashion Work 12 Versatile Working Spray on the top and inside each of the curls to lock into place.
• Once hair has dried, take the clips out and brush through to create dramatic waves.
• Spray Cutler Shine Tattoo to add glossy finish.

The Fantastic Four: Fascinators

The Fantastic Four: FascinatorsIn the beginning, Blair Waldorf had her headbands and now Kate Middleton has her fascinators. With all eyes are on Kate Middleton less than two months until the royal wedding, Kate’s fashion sense is under the proverbial microscope and the one thing I’m utterly fascinated by are the fascinators (pardon the pun). On this side of the pond we don’t wear head appendages all that often, which is a shame if you ask me, but between Blair Waldorf and Kate Middleton we’ve got an excuse to explore the hair accessory world beyond the bounds of decorated bobby pins and barrettes.

All the feathers, veils, buttons, and little added details make these so called fascinators elegant and whimsical. We’d be willing to wager that it’s not socially acceptable to wear headdresses like Marie Antoinette in public so we’ll have to settle for these. [1] The Bundle MacLaren Millinery label makes some of the most beautiful fascinators I’ve ever seen, this one, the Alie, combines a faux snakeskin button headpiece, a crinoline veil, black quills, and a gorgeous gold and diamante brooch. [2] Planet’s Multi Feather Fascinator mixes purple and green perfectly, and the cut feathers are all about the drama. [3] Hobbs London’s Pacific blue Esme Fascinator is all about the aqua blue feathers, and it’s perfect for clipping onto the base of chignon or sitting atop of our heads. [4] Valencian hat designer, Catarina Vassalo puts Spanish society on the map with the Gold and Brown Fascinator, the cameo and buttons make this piece even more gorgeous.

Hair How To: Sandra Bullock at the Oscars

Sandra Bullock at the Oscars

Bearing in mind how gorgeous Sandra Bullock looked on the red carpet, it was all about the glamor and the real total package. The scarlet Vera Wang gown and simple diamond studs only looked more spectacular thanks to David Babaii’s hair artistry, putting her textured tresses in a sophisticated chignon updo. And the best part is, we’ve got the inside scoop on how to score this hairstyle at home:

You’ll need:

[1] 1-inch straightening iron.

[2] Bobby Pins.

[3] Hair Oil/Serum

[4] Blow Dryer

[5] Wide Tooth Comb

Directions:

[1] Starting with just washed, towel dried hair – Apply your favorite frizz taming hair oil treatment serum (David used the Couture Colour Pequi Oil) and comb through using a wide tooth comb for even distribution.

[2] Blow-dry hair using a round brush; you’ll want a smooth finish.

[3] Apply a few additional drops of your hair oil and brush your hair straight back.

[4] Starting at the front, twist half inches of hair and press down along the twisted sections using the flat iron to create a wavy texture. (Tip: let each strand cool and release naturally). Repeat this step until you’ve achieved the full textured look throughout your whole head.

[5] With a little more of your hair oil, finger comb your hair back into a ponytail above the nape of your neck.

[6] Wrap hair around the band, securing pieces with bobby pins. Let any loose hairs fall naturally as you pin along the chignon.
